Legal Assistance
Our office provides legal assistance free of charge to inmates with claims of actual innocence. Our organization only works on cases in post conviction. In other words, a person looking for assistance from us must have been convicted in a Florida State court, sentenced, and have already completed their direct appeal process. Additionally, we cannot work directly on cases where an outside attorney has already been appointed or retained.

Please direct those looking for legal assistance in their case to write us a letter, send it via U.S. Mail to our mailing address listed above. The letter should explain the situation and request our Screening Questionnaire.

It is our organization’s policy that communication must be between our office and the potential client, unless special circumstances (i.e. language barriers, learning disorders, disabilities) require an advocate to act on the person’s behalf.

The Innocence Project of Florida regrets that we do not have the staff or capability to handle cases outside of Florida, Federal cases, or cases that do not involve actual innocence. If inquiring about a non-Florida case, please check this listing of projects in other states.

Before You Send:
When you email us, please remember to include your contact information (name, address and/or phone number).
If you are inquiring about a specific person in prison, please provide the name and DOC number (if known).
If your communication is case-related, please understand that IPF has a policy of communicating solely with the person in prison themselves through the US Mail unless you have been designated as an advocate for their case.

Speaking Requests

If you are interested in having one of our staff, Exonerees, or clients speak at your event please submit a contact inquiry above and include the time and date, purpose; theme and mission of the event; brief description of the organization making the request; and the length of time and topic for our speaker. We respectfully ask that all requests for speakers be made 3-4 weeks prior to the event date.
